1.

The "CHAHISING" is 250 tons, her armament being

one 3 pounder gun, 5 Lewis guns and side arms.

Her crew consists of one Buropean Captain, one

European Engineer, 3 artificers, 20 ratings and 5 cabin

hands.

Since the hostilities commenced the "CHAHSING"

has been anchored at Kowloon Bay.

On the 11th December, 1957, Captain COOK received

instructions to proceed into DEEP BAY and to wait for further

instructions with a view to landing a party of men at

SHUM CHUN Customs Station.

At 12 noon on the same date, the cruiser sailed

from Kowloon Bay via CAP SHUI MUN with the mentioned men on

board.

At 14.20 hours when the ship was roughly about half a mile to the north of YUNG LUNG WAN (British Territory)

at the entrance to DEEP BAY, she sighted a Japanese destroyer

belonging to the 23rd or 25th flotilla, at a distance 1.3

miles from 3.W. Point (CHAK WAN) in Chinese Waters, when

fire was opened by the destroyer on the cruiser.

At 14.22 hours the engines of the cruiser were

stopped and the cruiser swung stern into the direction of

the destroyer.

8.

At 14.24 hours the cruiser proceeded at full

speed towards BLACK POINT, where she was struck on the

starboard side below the bridge by a richochet shell.

The cruiser then swung onto the beach at YUNG

9.

LUNG WAN (British Territory), where the 2 anchors were dropped

and the crew abandoned the ship at 14.55 hours the Captain

taking with him the log book.
